In V century occupied by Vandals, Sousse was called Hunericopolis. In VII - controlled by the Arabs. In IX century the main port of Aghlabid's dynasty. From 1883 Sousse belonged to France. Occupied by Germany in 1942, bombed by the allies. From 1956 in independent Tunisia.
