History Sousse

"Pearl of the Sahel", also called Sousse, the third largest city, over 300 thousand citizens and one of the most beautiful. It can be compared to Tunis: modern and oriental atmosphere.

It was founded in the IX century BC as Phoenician Hadrumetum. In 202 BC. Hannibal's base during the second Punic War. After the third Punic War (149-146 BC) under the reign of Rome. In V century occupied by Vandals, Sousse was called Hunericopolis. In VII - controlled by the Arabs. In IX century the main port of Aghlabid's dynasty. From 1883 Sousse belonged to France. Occupied by Germany in 1942, bombed by the allies. From 1956 in independent Tunisia.
